Drosera capensis ‘Alba’ is a striking varient of the Cape Sundew, known for its elegant, nearly colorless appearance. Unlike the typical Drosera capensis, which has red tentacles and a pinkish hue, ‘Alba’ lacks anthocyanin pigments, giving it a pale green to yellowish-white coloration throughout its leaves and glandular hairs. This unique feature makes it stand out among other sundews while still maintaining the species’ characteristic long, narrow leaves that curl around prey.
Like its red counterpart, D. capensis ‘Alba’ is an easy-to-grow carnivorous plant, thriving in bright sunlight and nutrient-poor, acidic soil. It produces delicate white flowers on tall stalks, adding to its ethereal beauty. Its dewdrop-covered leaves effectively trap small insects, making it an excellent natural pest controller. This variety is a favorite among carnivorous plant enthusiasts due to its unusual coloration and hardy nature.
