Drosera burmanii, commonly known as The Tropical Sundew, is a small, annual carnivorous plant native to tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and Australia. This sundew species forms a rosette of flat, spatula-shaped leaves that radiate from a central stem. The leaves are adorned with numerous long, glandular tentacles that exude sticky mucilage, trapping unsuspecting insects. These trapped insects provide essential nutrients to the plant, supplementing the poor soils it typically inhabits. Drosera burmanii is characterized by its rapid leaf movement, swiftly curling around captured prey to ensure digestion. The plant produces delicate, pink to white flowers on slender stems, further adding to its allure and unique beauty.
